Guidance Center of Westchester Promotes Great American Smoke Out

An informational event will be held Thursday in Mount Vernon.

The Guidance Center of Westchester is partnering with the American Lung Association, the American Cancer Society, and POW'R Against Tobacco for the Great American Smoke Out.

Held Thursday, November 21, the Great American Smoke Out encourages smokers to use the day to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance and quit smoking that day.

While many populations of people have seen a steady decrease in smoking rates, people with mental health and substance use issues continue to smoke at alarming rates. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the average number of cigarettes smoked in the past month was higher among adults who had a mental illness than those who do not.
