Get Out Weekend Planner: Clowning Around, Bob Cratchit's Wife and New Year's Eve

This edition of our weekend planner has events that you can do today straight through New Year's Eve, including things for the kids to enjoy.

Why go: This traditional creche is filled with more than 200 historically accurate figurines created in astonishing detail, depicting life in an 18th-century Neapolitan village.

Price: Suggested contribution for adults, $10; for children and seniors, $5.

2. Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge
Where/When:
, 931c E Boston Post Rd., Mamaroneck, Thursday, Dec. 29, and Friday, Dec. 30, 8 p.m.
Why go: Strictly for mature audiences, this hilarious holiday play is back for the second straight year. It's A Christmas Carol told through the eyes of a miserable, alcoholic Mrs. Cratchit.
Price: $20.

3. Chip Bryant, the Silent Clown
Where/When: , 1 Library Plaza, New Rochelle, Friday, Dec. 30, 2 p.m.
Why go: Bryant will amuse kids of all ages as well as their families. His performances feature a mix of clowning, mime, juggling, magic, puppetry, music and audience interaction.
Pricing: Free.

4. Ring in the New Year at Noon at New Roc City
Where/When: New Roc City, 33 LeCount Pl., New Rochelle, Saturday, Dec. 31, 10:30 a.m.
Why go: The second annual New Year's Eve event features prizes, games and activities. Children will experience an exciting Times Square-simulated atmosphere complete with countdown and balloon drop. Click here to download your free admission pass.

Where/When: Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway, 810 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers, Saturday, Dec. 31, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Why go: Feeling lucky? Become an Empire Club member for free and receive an $11 free play voucher from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Members will also receive free party hats and party horns to help bring in 2012.

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
