Get Fresh Produce for Your Labor Day Barbecue

It's time to stock up for your Labor Day barbecue, and there's plenty of fresh produce available at local farmers markets.

Amy Gardiner, the market host for New Rochelle's Down to Earth Market, said there is lots of corn available, along with fresh fruit, melons and squash.

"And this was an excellent year for tomatoes," she said.

Gardiner said the markets also have prepared foods in case you want to take it easy—such as fresh hummus of bans ganoush from Eden Fresh.

She also suggested incorporating the award-winning Sohha Greek yogurt into dishes.

"Greek yogurt is not just for breakfast," Gardiner said.

The Down to Earth farmers markets are from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Fridays in New Rochelle on North Avenue near the high school and from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays in Larchmont at the train station parking lot.

The Grand Market in New Rochelle is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays at Library Green.
