1. Writers Gathering
Where/When: Greenburg Public Library, 300 E Main St., Elmsford, Tuesday, July 3 at 7 p.m.
Why go: The Writers Gathering will provides a time and place to meet with other writers and discuss your work, because sometimes writing is a lonely job. Call 914-721-8209 for more information.

2. Pirates of the Hudson: The Siege of Sleepy Hollow
Where/When: , 381 N. Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, Wednesday-Saturday, July 4-8 at 2 p.m.
Why go: Pirates lay anchor in the Hudson River and storm Sleepy Hollow. There will be gypsy sword dancers roaming the grounds, while kids take part in the Pieces of Eight treasure hunt. Test your cannon shot capabilities and help take out the British in Davy Jones’ Revenge! Seize some booty in the Thieves Market, but watch out for pickpockets. 3. July 4th 'Spark the Sound' Fireworks Extravaganza
Where/When: New Rochelle waterfront, Wednesday, July 4 at 9:30 p.m.
Why go: Rain or shine, the Grucci fireworks will commence at 9:30 p.m. The best viewing will be from waterfront parks, including Hudson Beach Park and Five Islands Park.

4. Job Readiness Coach
Where/When: , 1 Library Plz., Thursday, July 5 at 5 p.m.
Why go: A job readiness coach will be available from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on a drop-in basis to assist you in findind and applying for a job.
Pricing: Free.

5. A Tree Grows at St. Paul's
Where/When: St. Paul's Church, 897 S. Columbus Ave., Mount Vernon, Thursday, July 5 at 7 p.m.
Why go: Take a walk and hear a talk about the history and diversity of trees at St. Paul's, led by Jessica Schuler, director of family forest, New York Botanical Garden.
Pricing: Free.

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
