1) Curious George: Sweet Dreams

Where/When: , 1 Library Plaza, New Rochelle, Wednesday, Aug. 1 at 10:30 a.m.
Why go: This movie of a compilation of adventures by the beloved children's character is the perfect way to start August.
Pricing: Free. 

2) Animal Embassy
Where/When: , 1 Library Plaza, New Rochelle, Wednesday, Aug. 1 at 2 p.m.
Why go: Join us on a night-time journey through the fascinating night life of the animal kingdom. Meet a red-eyed tree frog, a hedgehog, a sugar glider, ball pythons, a spotted salamander, a crested Gecko and more animals that have special night-time adaptations.
Pricing: Free. 

3) Storytime for Toddlers
Where/When: , 590 Central Park Ave., Scarsdale, Thursday, Aug. 2 at 10:30 a.m.
Why go: Every Tuesday and Thursday, Fun Craft of Scarsdale hosts toddler storytime for an hour beginning at 10:30 a.m. Each storytime includes crafts, a healthy snack and dancing to music and colorful lights. Preregistration is required.
Pricing: $12.

4) GymCats Gymnastics Open Gym
Where/When: GymCats Gymnastics, 1 Odell Plz., Yonkers, Friday, Aug. 3 at 11 a.m.
Why go: Get your walking child up to age 4 climbing, jumping and rolling around on the gym's mats and in its foam-filled pit. A tired child makes a happy mom or dad, right? 
Pricing: $10. 

5) The Smurfs
Where/When: Kensico Dam Plaza, 2 Broadway, Valhalla, Friday, Aug. 3 at 8 p.m.
Why go: The Lippolis Electric Movie under the Stars showing of the animated family film The Smurfs (PG, 2011) will take place rain or shine at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla. The movie begins at sundown. Admission and parking are free. Moviegoers should bring blankets, folding chairs and a picnic. Refreshments and popcorn will also be for sale.
Pricing: Free.

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
