Batten Down the Hatches! The Wind's a Whipping

As a mighty nor'easter passes New York to the east, its impacts are being felt here with wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour.

We may have been spared the snow of a nasty nor'easter, but the storm will still be whipping up some pretty serious winds across the area on Wednesday.

Wind Advisory issued by the National Weather Service for Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties went into effect this morning and will continue through 8 p.m today.

"A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 31 to 39 miles per hour ... or gusts of 46 to 57 miles per hour ... are expected or occurring," according to the National Weather Service. "Winds this strong can make driving difficult ... especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution."

The weather service also warns that the strong winds could take down weakened trees and limbs, and possibly pull down power lines with them.
