Westchester Children’s Museum Debuts Interactive Exhibits in Time for Summer

Exhibits to provide an interactive sneak peek of what’s to come at new Rye Playland home

The Westchester Children’s Museum (WCM) is slated to begin construction later this year, but isn’t waiting until then to provide youngsters with innovative exhibits. WCM is taking full advantage of its boardwalk location at Rye Playland by welcoming children and their families with two interactive exhibits that will kick off on June 2, with special previews beforehand.

Located at the North Bathhouse at Rye Playland, WCM will be educating and entertaining families from May 10 through September inside their new location with creative exhibits that allow for exploration in science, technology, engineering, art, and architecture.

The first of two exhibits, “KEVA Planks,” is an interactive experience comprised of thousands of small, uniform building planks yielding endless creation possibilities. Incorporating elements of art and architecture, the exhibit will challenge children, fuel creativity, and allow for collaborative interaction. Special previews of the exhibit will take place throughout May.

The second exhibit, “Build a Rollercoaster,” is an interactive, hands-on experience that allows children to create their own roller coaster, from design phase to testing phase. Visitors will have a chance to make discoveries about force, energy, friction, and stability – all while having a great time. The exhibit was developed by the Ontario Science Center in Toronto and begins on June 2.

“We are thrilled to be on site at the North Bathhouse at Rye Playland,” said Tracy Kay, WCM’s Executive Director. “A central location allows us to bring hands-on play and vital STEM education (science, technology, engineering, and math) to youngsters.”

The Westchester Children’s Museum will be constructed in the North Bathhouse on the famed boardwalk at Rye Playland, restoring the Rye landmark. The restoration of the bathhouse as the museum’s new home was paramount to WCM and its board. The community is excited to have the museum as a new tenant, while keeping the nostalgia of the Rye Playland boardwalk alive. WCM is in the midst of a $10 million capital campaign to get the museum’s doors open in the next 24 months.
