Vive la France. Verismo Opera to Celebrate 25th Season with Open House.

Celebrate the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera’s (Verismo Opera) 25th anniversary season, Vive la France, at the grand opera company’s annual Open House.  Artistic Director and Met Opera luminary Lucine Amara invites the public to attend the free event and learn more about Verismo Opera on Saturday, January 11, 2014, 2 p.m., at 44 Armory Street in Englewood, New Jersey.  A snow date is scheduled for Saturday, January 18, 2 p.m., at the same location.            

 

Verismo Opera’s staff will discuss the nonprofit opera company’s mission, vision, and history, and introduce its new season, Vive la France, featuring the productions of Giuseppe Verdi’s lavish opera La Traviata and Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohème, both set in Paris, France.  La Traviata will be performed on Sunday, April 6th and La Bohème on Sunday October 19th and 26th at the Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC), located at 30 North Van Brunt Street in Englewood, New Jersey.

The program will present vocalists performing solos from the upcoming 2014 operas and past productions.  Exhibits will display memorabilia and photos from Verismo Opera’s 25 years of producing grand operas, sponsoring an annual international vocal competition, presenting concerts, holding master classes, giving operalogues, and training the stars of tomorrow.

Opportunities to perform in the chorus, act as a supernumerary in non-speaking and non-singing roles or volunteer behind-the-scenes with the company will be presented.  Verismo Opera representatives in costume will be available to answer questions. 

 

The venue is handicapped accessible.  A parking lot has a designated handicapped parking space.

 

The 2014 season is made possible, in part, with funds provided by the New Jersey Council on the Arts/Department of State, through grand funds administered by the Bergen County Department of Parks, Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs.  Other supporters include the Mary Casella Briggs Memorial Fund, The Gerda Lissner Foundation, Inc., Vanguard Charitable Endowment Fund, Children’s Aid Foundation, Paul Weiss Matching Fund, Robert J.
