The College of New Rochelle Announces College & Career Day for High School Girls

‘Connecting the Dots’ Created in Partnership with the

Girl Scouts – Heart of the Hudson, HerHonor Mentoring, Girls Inc., Westchester and The Young Women’s Leadership Schools

The College of New Rochelle will open its main campus to local young women in their junior and senior year of high school for the first annual Connecting the Dots college & career day event on Saturday, February 1 from 8:30a.m.-4:30p.m.

Designed to help young women explore career choices and understand the college experience, the free event was created in partnership with the Girl Scouts – Heart of the Hudson, HerHonor Mentoring, Girls Inc., Westchester, and The Young Women’s Leadership Schools, as a way to provide information and resources to female students in the region. Students, parents, and mentors are all encouraged to attend.

“We want young women to understand that their college choices will connect to career success later in life,” said Dr. Colette Geary, Vice President of Student Services, “Connecting the Dots gives us an opportunity to shed light on academic choices and the college experience. Students and their families will be able to meet and talk with faculty and college students, as well as career professionals.”

During the event, the young women will participate in an interactive exercise exploring their interests. Then, they will break out into sessions facilitated by College of New Rochelle faculty, focused on academic majors: nursing; science and math, human services, communication and fine arts.  In separate sessions, family members will learn about the academic experience, student life, the admission process, and financial aid.

A discussion featuring a panel of young professional women, who will share their career experiences with the students and their families, will be a highlight of the event.

There will be tours of The College of New Rochelle campus facilities including the Learning Resource Center for Nursing, classrooms, art studios, the library, Wellness Center and residence halls. A complimentary continental breakfast and luncheon will be provided.

Connecting the Dots will take place at the Sweeny Student Center at The College of New Rochelle, located at 29 Castle Place in New Rochelle, on February 1 from 8:30a.m. to 4:30p.m. Space is limited and registration is required. For more information, call 914-654-5036.
