Singer Caroline Doctorow Coming Home to New Rochelle

It will be a homecoming of sorts when Caroline Doctorow and her band The Steamrollers perform at Hudson Park on Wednesday, July 24th at 7:30 pm. The free concert, part of the New Rochelle Council on the Arts Summer Sounds Concert Series, will give Doctorow – a New Rochelle native and daughter of author E. L. Doctorow (Ragtime) – a chance to demonstrate how her skill at blending her 1960s folk music roots with alternative country sounds has made her a leading force in today’s folk rock scene.

Her touring band, The Steamrollers, is described as “a rotating posse of superb players” and includes Andrew Carillo on guitars and electric sitar; Max Johnson on upright bass and duet vocals; Gary Oleyar on fiddle, guitar and vocals; Russ Seeger on fiddle, guitar and vocals; and Chris Tedesco on fiddle and vocals. But it is Doctorow’s unique voice that stands out: She has been compared to Emmylou Harris and Judy Collins. Doctorow can be heard on the soundtrack of the feature film Daniel and on the soundtrack of the PBS series Freedom, The History of Us (narrated by Katie Couric) singing "This Little Light of Mine." Doctorow has opened for The Band, Alison Krauss, Tim O'Brien, Richie Havens, The Subdudes, and Tom Paxton, to name a few. Her recordings include “Another Country –The Songs of Richard and Mimi Farina,” which received critical acclaim, and “I Carry All I Own – The Songs of Mary McCaslin” which reached #12 on the Folk Radio airplay charts. Her latest release is “Little Lovin’ Darling.”

The Summer Sounds concert series, which features an eclectic menu of free music on eight consecutive Wednesdays in July and August, is presented by the New Rochelle Council on the Arts, in partnership with the New Rochelle Dept. of Parks and Recreation, and sponsored by Webster Bank. Additional support is being provided by Metro Med, which is helping to underwrite the August 7th concert by New Rochelle Opera.
