WHO: Mariano Rivera, a 13-time All Star and five-time World Series champion with the New York Yankees and his wife, Clara Rivera, will receive the Inaugural Blessed Edmund Rice Humanitarian Award. Business Executive Robert LaPenta, a 1967 graduate of the College who received an honorary doctorate in 2000, will receive the 2014 Legacy Award. Alfred F. Kelly, a 1980 graduate who received an MBA in 1981, will be Master of Ceremonies. Kelly most recently served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee for Super Bowl XLVII. Former Yankee great Bernie Williams, who received an honorary degree from Iona in 2007, will also be attending.
WHAT: The Iona College Board of Trustees will host its 52nd Annual Scholarship Gala to honor leaders who exemplify the College’s mission of service, scholarship and value-based learning. Highlights include video messages from George Tenet, former director of the Central Intelligence Agency; Maria Bartiromo, Fox Business Network Anchor; and Mariano Rivera Jr., a pitcher with the Iona College baseball team.
