United Hebrew of New Rochelle Presented Second Annual Community Service Awards

United Hebrew of New Rochelle, a leading Westchester County nursing home and rehabilitation provider, awarded its second annual Community Service Award to three outstanding individuals; Dr. Simeon Schwartz, President/CEO of WESTMED Medical Group, Dr. Marsha Gordon, President/CEO of The Business Council of Westchester and Joseph M. Accetta, Esq , Chief Clerk of the Surrogate’s Court for Westchester County. The ceremony took place recently at United Hebrew of New Rochelle’s Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Pavilion .The individuals and their organizations were chosen in recognition of their high standards of excellence in making contributions which mirrors United Hebrew’s mission, vision and values. These people and their organizations enhance the lives of those in our community through their exceptional abilities and dedication to programs and services that uplift our society.  

United Hebrew’s President and CEO, Rita C. Mabli, introduced the honorees. “It is said that it is easy to sit up and take notice.  What is difficult is standing up and taking action. All of our honorees today have taken a stand to make our community a better place. Today we celebrate their commitment, dedication and sheer hard work.”

The Community Service Award was developed to honor inspirational role models that reflect United Hebrew’s own commitment to caring for the frail and elderly.  United Hebrew of New Rochelle is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian, multi-service senior living campus serving the Westchester metropolitan area since 1919. United Hebrew offers a rich array of skilled and community-based programs and services that encourages and supports a life of dignity and spirituality and promotes the highest possible quality of life. United Hebrew serves over 700 clients daily in its Harry and Jeanette Weinberg campus facilities -- Willow Towers, a 126-unit licensed assisted living residence; a modern nursing and rehabilitation center staffed with Burke Rehabilitation professionals; Soundview Apartments for seniors; and home health care.  

Judge Anthony Scarpino, of the Westchester County Surrogate Courts, began the program with a heartfelt speech about his colleague, Joseph Accetta.  Mr. Accetta, Esq., the Chief Clerk of the Surrogate’s Court, Westchester County in White Plains  joined the Law Department of the Surrogate’s Court, Westchester County as Principal Law Clerk to the Surrogate, and served in that capacity and as a Court Attorney-Referee until his appointment as Chief Clerk in January 2011.  Mr. Accetta has taught Legal Writing, Appellate Advocacy, and Surrogate’s Court Practice as an Adjunct Professor at Pace University Law School, Berkeley College, and Mercy College.  He is also an active member of the Trusts and Estates Division of the Westchester Bar Association. 

Dr. Marsha Gordon is the President and CEO of The Business Council of Westchester, the county’s largest business membership organization which is committed to helping businesses market, learn, advocate and grow.  Under the leadership of Dr. Gordon, the Business Council has grown exponentially from 500 members to more than 1,300, many of who credit her skill at forging intra-membership relationships for helping their business grow. As a major supporter for Health Care Reform, the Business Council of Westchester is an advocate for the development of pay-for-performance programs and centers of excellence that reward providers for delivering higher quality health care and targeting investments towards results.

Dr. Simeon Schwartz is the President and CEO of WESTMED Medical Group, a physician-owned and managed multi-specialty group practice.  Founded in 1996, WESTMED is now staffed by 221 physicians, delivering primary and specialty care in central and lower Westchester County.  They are the largest group of private practitioners in central and lower Westchester County. I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
