The Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) released its weekly awards today and two College of New Rochelle student-athletes received conference recognition.
Freshman center Jasmin Brandon (Jersey City, NJ/St. Anthony HS) has been named the HVWAC Basketball Player of the Week after posting her first collegiate double-double against John Jay College, scoring a team-high 12 points and pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds, including nine on the offensive glass. The freshman center added four blocks and two assists in 28 minutes of action. On the season, the rookie leads the Blue Angels in points (14.0) and rebounds (9.3), numbers that rank her fourth and fifth in the conference, respectively.
Freshman swimmer Claudia Benitez (White Plains, NY/White Plains HS) earned HVWAC Swimming Rookie of the Week honors for the second time. Benitez continued her strong season, placing second in the 200 yard IM (3:11.73) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:34.79), adding a fourth place finish in the 100 yard free (1:25.01) in the Blue Angels' dual meet against St. Joseph's College-Long Island.
