Two CNR Student-Athletes Receive Weekly Conference Honors

The College of New Rochelle received several conference honors this week, as freshman center Jasmine Brandon (Jersey City, NJ/St. Anthony) was recognized with Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Basketball Player of the Week and Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Basketball Rookie of the Week accolades and freshman Meagan Yoeono (Martinez, CA/Alhambra HS) was named HVWAC Swimming Rookie of the Week.

Brandon posted another strong week for CNR, averaging 14.0 points, 9.7 rebounds and 4.3 steals per game.  The rookie tallied her sixth and seventh double-doubles of the year, leading the team in points against Berkeley College (12 points, 13 rebounds) and College at Old Westbury (18 points, 12 rebounds, game-high six steals).  For the week, she also shot an impressive 83% from the free throw line.

These honors mark the second AD3I Player of the Week award for Brandon, and the fourth time she has been recognized by the HVWAC.

On the season, she is averaging 15.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.  Her rebounding average ranks her 39th in NCAA DIII, according to the latest ranking, while her double-double total ranks her ties for third nationally.

Yoeono scored in each of her four events at the Blue Angels dual meet vs. Brooklyn College. She kicked off the meet by swimming the second leg for the Blue Angels' victorious 200 yard medley relay team. The rookie also placed second in the 100 yard breaststroke, third in the 200 yard freestyle and swam the third leg for the 200 yard freestyle relay team.

Yoeono is also a member of the Blue Angels Cross Country team, competing as CNR’s #2 runner to complete a strong first collegiate season.

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
