Life With Mitt Romney As President

A look at our potential lives for the next four years under Mitt Romney

There are some people who are unclear about whether a second term for Obama is a good idea, but even more so, if Mitt Romney as president is a better choice.

I know this crosses my mind. The popular issues that people are "on the edge of their seats for" are discussed below.

Based on some of Romney’s policies, our lives are going to consist of…

·         Waiting for our troops in Afghanistan

o   Romney wants our military presence to stay consistent until we successfully train Afghan forces so they can protect themselves from the Taliban tyranny

o   Any withdrawal of troops will have to be consulted with the military commanders

·         Stopping & preventing Iran’s nuclear power

o   Romney believes that this message should not be resolved with words, but through action

o   More military coordination and strengthening intelligence to make sure our allies are ready for Iran

·         Promoting democratic beliefs to the middle east

o   Assistance to governments will be provided

o   In Iraq, Romney promises to aid the nation to reduce Iranian influence and promote values of liberty

·         Military spending

o   We currently have outdated weapons

o   According to the Republican presidential candidate,

§  “The cost of preparedness may sometimes be high, but the cost of unpreparedness is almost always higher—not just in tax dollars but in human life and in the survival of liberty and representative government.”

·         Improving our schools

o   Recruiting great teachers using block grants

o   Allowing report cards to determine effectiveness of school

o   Expanding state/district scholarships nationally

o   K-12: provide alternative school choices to students

o   K-12: low income & special needs children = Title I & IDEA funds

o   Higher Ed: strengthen & simplify financial system; welcome private sector participation

·         Trying to be the American energy superpower

o   Research and development

o   State control over onshore energy development

o   Reform environmental laws

o   Keystone XL Pipeline

·         Choosing our own health care

o   Repeal Obamacare

o   State will create its own health care that will benefit its citizens

·         Less complications for immigrants

o   Get rid of unnecessary requirements that delay issuance of visas and speed up application process

o   Allow illegal immigrants, brought as children, to serve in military to attain citizenship

·         Taxation

o   Individual tax: 20% cut in marginal rates

o   Corporate tax: bring tax from 35% to 25%

Next week’s post will be about what our lives will consist of under a second term with President Obama.

Vice presidential debate: Thursday Oct.11- 9 PM EST. FOX, CNN, NBC, MSNBC, C-SPAN, CBS, ABC.

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
