Sept. 11, Volunteering and Pete Seeger

Here are a few things you need to know for Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013.

1. There will be ceremonies honoring the memories of people who died Sept. 11, 2001, including Iona College's 12:30 p.m. ceremony in Memorial Park in front of Ryan Library on the campus, Amy's Garden ceremony at Barnard Elementary School at 3:30 p.m. and the 7:30 p.m. ceremony organized by the United Veterans Memorial & Patriotic Association of New Rochelle at the American Legion on North Avenue.

2. The Volunteer Center of the United Way has organized "9/11: Serve & Remember," with many ways for people to help out in their communities for the week of 9/11. Go here to find out where you can volunteer.

3.  The weather for Wednesday will start off with patchy fog before 10 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. Then it will be sunny with a high near 92. Overnight, there will be a 20 percent chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms. There will be patchy fog after 10 p.m. The low will be around 73.

4. Legendary folk singer Pete Seeger will speak at Manhattanville College Sept. 20. Read more here.
