'Golden Door,' 'Up' and 19 Cats

Here are some of the things you should know for Thursday, October 17, 2013.

1. The New Rochelle Public Library’s free series of acclaimed films and documentaries relating immigration experiences concludes at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 17th with Golden Door in the Ossie Davis Theater. Guest film curator, Yvette Nieves, will lead the discussion following the film. Also known as Nuovomondo—(New World)—the film is a 2006 drama based on a family's migration from Italy to New York at the beginning of the 20th century. It's in Italian, with English subtitles, and is suitable for all ages. The library is at 1 Library Plz. in New Rochelle.

2. The Up series continues at 6 p.m. Thursday at Sarah Lawrence College with a look at the 56-year-olds in the documentary by director Michael Apted. 56 Up is the latest film where every seven years Apted goes back to talk to the 14 children-now adults. The free film will be shown in the Esther Raushenbush Library Meeting Room on the campus at 1 Mead Way in Bronxville.

3. The weather Thursday will be mostly cloudy with a high near 75, according to the National Weather Service. For Thursday night, showers are likely before 2 a.m. The low will be around 58.

4. ICYMI: 19 cats? Yikes.
