Garbage Collection, Quitting Smoking and Snow Forecast

Here is some of what you need to know for Thursday, January 2, 2014.

• Garbage and comingled recyclables will be collected Thursday in the north end of New Rochelle, because of the New Year's Day holiday, and Friday in the south end. Collection schedules and information for 2014 will be mailed to households the first week in January. The schedule can be found now on the City's website.

• If quitting smoking is one of your resolutions for 2014, then start at Stop Smoking Using Hypnosis session at 7 p.m. Thursday at Westchester Reform Temple, 255 Mamaroneck Rd., Scarsdale. Here is the information you need to know.

• Snow is likely for Thursday, mainly after 3 p.m. Otherwise, it will be cloudy with a high near 28. Snow will continue Thursday night with a low around 16. Wind chill values could get as low as minus 1 degree. Total snow accumulation could be from 4 to 9 inches.
