Summer Reading Kick-off Saturday at New Rochelle Public Library

There will be entertainment, games and activities at the New Rochelle Public Library

Hey, New Rochelle kids, crack open those books and get reading now that summer is here.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, the will hold its Summer Reading Kick-off Party, which is designed to raise enthusiasm for summer reading.

Children entering pre-kindergarten up through grade five will have an opportunity to sample some of the programs being conducted at the main library as well as the Huguenot Children's LIbrary July 2 through Aug. 10.

This summer's theme is Dream Big @ Your Library!, and complimentary craft stations will provide materials and guidance for projects children can take home.

During the party, parents will have the opportunity to enroll their children in the library's summer reading incentive program, called Dream Big: Read!

Children will keep track of the books read so that they can win prizes throughout the summer.

On Saturday, the party will feature a 45-minute performance by children's entertainer Louie Miranda beginning at 1:15 p.m. at Library Green or in the library's Ossie Davis Theater in case of rain. Miranda's program will have spirited singing, dancing and games.

Also joining in the kick-off party will be Born Learning, a public education campaign from the United Way of Westchester and Putnam that helps parents and caregivers ways to turn everyday moments into fun learning opportunities for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. There will be a special area with bookmaking, crafts, games and other activities for them Saturday.

The Summer Reading Kick-off Party is sponsored by the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library and the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District.
