MACs Kids Expo Brings Together Families and Businesses

The Motivators and Creators' second annual Kids Expo featured 30 vendors and included face painting, balloon animals, cupcake workshops and other fun stuff for kids.

Over an estimated 500 people came out for the second annual MACs Kids Expo at the on Sunday.

Michelle Christie founded Motivators and Creators Women's Group to support women entrepreneurs in the region. MACs organized the Kids Expo to bring together businesses and members of the community.

“The event is a fun day of activities for the entire family. MACs is an outlet to showcase women  connecting, supporting and education,” said Christie. “A lot of what we do is to provide events, like the summit that is coming up for women in business. It is national women's history month, so it is a great time to showcase women in business.”

“I'm probably never going to get him out,” said Vinnie Camera of Scarsdale, as his young son disappeared into an inflatable bounce house. “I like [he can] pick up little toys and trinkets. I realize that it is advertisements, but to him, it is fun. And that's the main focus: for him to have fun.”

More traditional vendors carried children's supplies including magnet boxes, small and large storage boxes, baby bags, kitchen aprons, hats and beach bags. Service vendors that cater children's parties were also on hand, along with balloons, clowns, magicians, and inflatable outdoor entertainment structures such as slides and castles.

Vendor Laura Knoell, a sales representative of Two Lumps of Sugar, came to the event after having gone to another MAC event.

Mabel's Labels, a international company specializing in custom kids labels that are microwave, dishwasher and washer-dryer safe, felt that it was important to reach out into Westchester County.

“It has been good to see what kind of market it is in Westchester and get to know areas outside of Manhattan," said representative Melissa Madden.  "We want to participate in more grassroots events.”

Sylote Fleurimond of Hamden, Conn., brought her daughter and nieces to the event.

“I told my sister that after church I'm coming over to pick [her kids] up. I love this. It is good for kids and their families. You have so much information here, and kids love it,” Fleurimond said.

Sonal Kataria, of White Plains, brought her husband and 2-year-old daughter, who was eating a cupcake that she had decorated from LilChefs.com Special Events.

“This is amazing because [my daughter] just started to get into cupcakes," Kataria said. "It is a pretty cool concept. We tried to come last year, but had things going on. I have a Meetup group—the South Asian Parents of Westchester County—that I organize, and so I wanted to come and then relay it to the group.”
