Bites Nearby: Smokehouse Chili Grill
Located on North Avenue near downtown New Rochelle, Smokehouse Chili Grill has been satisfying their customers with hearty chili and grilled favorites.
You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, New Rochelle Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out.
Here's this week's choice:
Since 2007, Smokehouse Chili Grill has become one of the best places in all of Westchester to enjoy a spicy bowl of chili, and Westchester Magazine even voted them best chili in the county in 2008 saying that "the lines are long; often out the door. We understand why. We've waited on that line for Smokehouse Chili Grill's flavor-packed, thick, bubbling chili, too."
With daily and weekly specials, things are constantly changing at the restaurant to keep their customers continuously coming back for new chili creations as well as food and drink specials.
According to their Web site, Smokehouse says that they are not fast food, so while this may lead to a longer wait time on dine-in or delivery orders, more importantly all of their orders are made fresh as they strive to provide the best food with the best service in town.
The restaurant not only serves up five different kinds of chili, but they also have burgers, steaks, ribs and a hot dog measuring 2 feet in length named "The Dirty Dawg."
One thing that is unique about Smokehouse is that they will deliver practically anywhere in Westchester or even into the Bronx! If you are in the downtown New Rochelle area, however, they are open late, closing at midnight Monday-Wednesday, 1 a.m. on Thursdays and 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Every time I go down to the New Rochelle area around lunch time I stop in a Smokehouse and usually order up the Texas Burger with a root beer float. The Texas burger is so good it's worth the trip, even from out of state. And the root beer on tap is amazing. I wish there was a Smokehouse in the Boston area. Plus the new renovation has made sitting inside a lot more comfortable. It's an all around good lunch experience, especailly sitting ot side in the summer.
